Letter to the Editor

Sir: The syndrome of monosymptomatic hypochondriacal psychosis is a form of DSM-IV delusional disorder, somatic subtype, characterized by a delusional belief that one is afflicted with a medical disorder or defect. The delusional symptoms are circumscribed. Such patients often present to dermatologists with delusions of parasitosis.
