Weight Gain, Sexual Dysfunction, and Bupropion

Sir: In their recent (May 2005) article, Zimmerman et al.1 reported that bupropion is not associated with weight gain or sexual dysfunction. I disagree with their assertion for the following reasons.

Concerning weight gain, the package insert for bupropion extended-release (XL)2 states that 9% of patients treated with the immediate-release (IR) form of bupropion gained weight, a rate higher than that found with placebo.​
