Sir: We agree with Dr. Kapoor’s assessment regarding thegrowing number of psychiatric and neurologic disorders forwhich transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is proving useful. Of note, the recently published study of TMS was thelargest (N = 302) randomized, sham-controlled trial to demonstrateefficacy in patients with major depression. Further, thetreatment modality was well tolerated by a majority of patients,with a low incidence of side effects and a low discontinuationrate.’ ‹
