Letter to the Editor
Sir: Ghaemi suggests that in our study on the diagnosis
of bipolar disorder we confused concepts of reliability and validity.
In fact, we discussed issues of both reliability and validity.
As we noted in the discussion section of the article: “Any
study seeking to determine whether a psychiatric disorder is
overdiagnosed will find that some patients with the index condition
do not have it upon reinterview.
