George T. Grossberg, M.D., opened the symposium by reviewing the current state of treatment strategies for Alzheimer’s disease and offering examples of future direction of research for both treatment and prevention. The current science relative to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease is fueling the development of a variety of novel treatment approaches, both pharmacologic and otherwise. Cholinergic as well as noncholinergic and combination treatment strategies are becoming more and more popular in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
