Sir: I thank Dr. Jefferson for his interest in our work,1 whichdescribed recurrences of major depression despite full doses ofmaintenance medication. We observed such recurrences in 25%of the cases in which study subjects were maintained on theirantidepressant therapy after successful treatment for an episodeof major depression. The morbidity and impairment associatedwith these recurrences can be devastating.’ ‹
