Sir: A high rate of autoimmune thyroiditis not associatedwith lithium treatment has been reported in patients with psychiatricdisorders.1,2 Hashimoto’s encephalopathy is a rare subacutecondition associated with high levels of thyroid antibodies thatusually presents with neurologic symptoms. A few cases of thisillness manifesting with predominant psychiatric symptoms havebeen reported.3-5
