Importance of Gender in the Treatment of Schizophrenia

Gender may be a moderator of both response to and tolerability of antipsychotics. However, there is little information about gender differences in schizophrenia and its treatment. To further investigate this topic, the authors of this study compared male and female patients participating in the electronic Schizophrenia Treatment Adherence Registry (e-STAR), an international, prospective, observational study assessing use of risperidone long-acting injection in patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder in both the Czech and Slovak Republics.
