In March, we said that at the end of 2006 we would pay special homage to our reviewers who had carried the heaviest load in 2006. Peer review, of course, is essential to a medical journal. Reviewers donate their expertise to advance knowledge in our field. Peer review improves the quality of papers and promotes scientific integrity.​
