Article Abstract

Because this piece does not have an abstract, we have provided for your benefit the first 3 sentences of the full text.

"Bath salts" are a group of synthetic derivatives of cathinone, a naturally occurring psychostimulant found in khat plants. The most common active ingredients, mephedrone, methylenedioxypyrovalerone, and methylone, are found to have strong amphetamine-like psychoactive properties. Smoked, inhaled, injected, or ingested, they have a rapid onset of action of 30 to 60 minutes.
