Rap and Mania

John C. Markowitz

Article Abstract

Letter to the Editor

Sir: Psychopathology frequently borrows its context and
content from current events and cultural developments. In the
heyday of Star Wars, psychotic patients presented with delusions
about Darth Vader; Easter annually evokes paranoid religious
delusions in individuals who see themselves as Christ.
The emergence of rap music has produced a small psychiatric
literature on its sexual, violent style and lyrics (e.g., reference
1).
