Sir: The 2002 National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference recommended that treatments for hepatitis C virus (HCV) be extended to groups previously thought to be high-risk candidates for receiving interferon treatment. These high-risk groups include those with severe and persistent mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder.1 Interferon is known for inducing or causing relapse to depression.’ ‹
