Family History and Early Psychotogenic Response to Marijuana

Malcolm B. Bowers, Jr.

Published: April 15, 1998

Article Abstract

Sir: Marijuana use has been associated with mental illness for more than a century and a half. This relationship was first noted by J. J. Moreau de Tours in his 1845 classic work, Hashish and Mental Illness. Observations by Indian psychiatrists kept the topic alive during the first half of this century.
