Practical Lessons From Effectiveness Trials of Care Management and Psychoeducation for Bipolar Disorder

Article Abstract

Bipolar disorder is a chronic condition with a tremendous economic burden, yet the majority of patients do not receive quality care. Organized treatment programs that employ features such as care coordinators and patient and family psychoeducation have been shown to improve clinical outcomes for patients with bipolar disorder. The implementation of organized care may also be a cost-effective way to decrease bipolar symptoms and meet the individual patient’s changing needs.
