Reply to Acupuncture for Major Depressive Disorder: Has Its Efficacy Been Disproved?

Article Abstract

Because this piece does not have an abstract, we have provided for your benefit the first 3 sentences of the full text.

Sir: We thank our colleagues for their comments regarding our randomized controlled trial1 of acupuncture in the treatment of depression. We would agree that the results of this single trial should not lead to the dismissal of acupuncture as a treatment for depression, and that further research in acupuncture for depression is warranted.

We don’ t agree, however, that our results support the efficacy of acupuncture as a monotherapy for depression.’ ‹
