The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) was published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) in May 2013. The new edition introduced major revisions to the diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These changes could have a significant impact on patients and families affected by ASD, as well as mental health providers and researchers working in the field of autism.
