Susan Shur-Fen Gau, MD, PhD, has published research on neurodevelopmental disorders and depression, including studies on long-term antidepressant use and its association with type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as adherence and side effects of methylphenidate treatment in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Her work, appearing between 2008 and 2014, often involved population-based and national survey methodologies. She has collaborated frequently with Chi-Shin Wu, Ching-Shu Tang, Helen Cheng, Hsin-Yi Liang, and Hsueh-Ling Chang.
