Sir: Alternative and complementary medicine is popular inthe United States, and interest in this type of medicine is growing.Approximately 55% of the U.S. population uses complementaryand alternative medicines, at a cost of $337 million in2001.1 Knaudt et al.2 found that 54% of outpatients with psychiatricconditions used alternative medicines in addition to conventionalmedicines to treat psychiatric symptoms.
