Stephen R. Marder, M.D., addressed the efficacy of atypical antipsychotics. In a controversial study, Geddes and collaborators1 concluded that conventional antipsychotics should be firstline treatments except when motor side effects such as EPS are a problem. However, most patients treated with conventional agents will experience some of these adverse effects.
