Primary care physicians (PCP) treat many patients with depression but may be less likely than specialists to provide measurement-based care. Optimal care for major depressive disorder (MDD) should involve regular assessment of symptom resolution, treatment adherence, and tolerability. The following 3 case presentations demonstrate how measurement-based care can be used to monitor treatment benefits and adverse effects, how to improve adherence and patient outcomes, and how to recognize and treat residual symptoms.
