Heinz Grunze, MD, has contributed extensively to the study of bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, neurology, suicide, and weight-related issues. His publications focus on diagnostic criteria for hypomania and mania, age at onset and familial illness burden in bipolar disorder, illness progression, pharmacologic treatment complexity, and the impact of antidepressant use in bipolar depression. Grunze’s work also examines differences between bipolar and unipolar depressive episodes, subsyndromal symptoms, and mechanisms of atypical antipsychotics in bipolar depression.
