Problems With Switching Rapidly From One MAOI to Another

James W. Jefferson

Published: February 15, 1998

Article Abstract

Sir: Szuba et al. described relatively trouble-free outcomes in 8 patients switched rapidly from one MAOI to another MAOI. They were appropriately cautious about advocating such a treatment strategy, although their review uncovered only two prior case reports of difficulties with a rapid switch. However, the literature does contain at least 4 additional cases in which a rapid switch was poorly tolerated.
