Depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States, and worldwideit accounts for more of the disease burden than any other illness but heartdisease. However, in contrast to many other common chronic illnesses, this diseasehas yet to be characterized thoroughly by the elucidation of evidencebasedmechanisms for its existence and treatment.

Depression and Brain Dysfunction includes 20 authors who contribute to12 chapters associated with about a dozen color plates.
