To the Editor: Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is a broad-spectrum antibiotic prescribed for the treatment of uncomplicated infections. It is an irreversible inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase, leading to a reduction in the production of folic acid. The combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole works as a bactericidal antibiotic due to its synergistic effect.
